2025 IP PINs are now available on IRS ID.me Accounts

An Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP PIN) is a six-digit number assigned by the IRS to prevent tax-related identity theft. The IP PIN works as a form of “two factor authorization.” We strongly recommend all clients obtain an IP PIN to protect themselves from potential fraud this tax season. IP PINs are updated on a yearly basis, and 2025 PINs are now updated in IRS accounts.

Whether you’re renewing your existing IP PIN or applying for the first time, following these straightforward steps will help ensure your federal tax returns are filed securely and accurately.

The section explains the purpose of the IP PIN as a six-digit number required to file federal tax returns and prevent unauthorized use of Social Security or Taxpayer Identification Numbers. The assigned IP PIN example is '123456,' with instructions emphasizing its use for tax years 2025, 2024, and 2023, not sharing the PIN with others, and that a new PIN is generated each year. A print button is located at the bottom of the page.
New in 2025, taxpayers can opt out of recurring IP PINs by selecting the OPT OUT button on your ID.me account.
